Mrs. Wilma Frances Reece Smith, age 85, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at Hugh Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin.
Wilma was born July 30, 1938, to Rev. James and Ruby Chappell Reece. Wilma was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church where she directed the choir for many years and served a large role with the youth. She was always ready to cook a meal and loved her church family. Wilma loved sewing, crafts, gardening, and canning with her daughter-in-law, Debbie, and her two daughters Lisa and Debbie. She enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and watching WWE Wrestling, but she especially loved spoiling her four grandsons and watching her sons and grandsons play sports.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alex David Smith, a son George Smith, a sister Shelby White, and two brothers, Don Reece and Larry Reece.
Survivors include her son, Gerald, and wife Debbie of Elkin; daughters, Debbie Wood and husband Kenny of State Road, Lisa Landry and husband Michael of Elkin; grandsons, Joe Wood and wife Annika of Elkin, Jared Smith of Elkin, Brett Smith of Elkin, Jesse Smith of Elkin; several nieces and nephews; grand puppies, Daisy, Bogie and Andy.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Joe Wood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shoaly Branch Baptist Church building fund, 1331 Shoaly Branch Church Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, especially the staff of 400 hall.
