Barbara Jean Burch

Mrs. Barbara Jean Burch, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, joining her loving husband of 25 years, Gayle, and all of her loved ones to whom she was so faithful.

She was born May 17, 1939 in Surry County to Dick Hayes and Lucille Alexander Hayes.

Mrs. Burch worked for Elk Pharmacy for over 25 years before going into private home care. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her family, traveling, working in her flowers, and decorating and making her home warm and festive for Christmas, her favorite holiday.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burch was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gayle Burch and great-grandson Elijah Ray Swaim.

Survivors include: sons Terry Dixon Settle and Nancy of State Road, Jody Brady Settle of Elkin; daughters Mandy Settle Foster and her husband Charles of Elkin, Shayne Settle Smith of Elkin; brother Mike Hayes of Elkin; grandchildren Christopher L. Mayes, Maggie A. Swaim, Will Smith and his wife Alethea, Heath Foster and his wife Jessica, Sarah Foster, Bella Rose Settle, and Guilliana Settle; and great-grandchildren Sawyer Grey Foster, Brady Tyler Harvey and Christopher Raiden Smith.

The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 pm. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Danny Dodds officiating.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
