Larry Rector

Larry Rector, USAF-Ret., age 84, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 at his residence in Thurmond.

Mr. Rector was born June 28, 1938 in Alleghany County to Durward and Reba Marsh Rector.

Mr. Rector was a twenty-three year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War and retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a loyal member of Horizon Church and the Surry County VFW Post 9436.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rector was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Rector; three sisters; and a half-brother, Don Ray Rector.

Survivors include: wife, Daisy Wolfe Rector of the home; sons, Larry Michael Rector and his wife Gayle of Limestone, Maine, Lane Rector and his wife Denise of State Road; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Rector of State Road; half-brother Earnest J. Rector; half-sister, Doris Lee Smith; grandchildren, Alisa M. Rector, Anthony M. Rector, Kelsey Singh, Ashlen Rector; step-grandchildren, Christa L. Mattoon, Megan Morrison; six step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2:00 at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jamie Wood and Pastor Phil Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Park Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
