Margaret Carter Hinson

Mrs. Margaret Carter Hinson, age 99, of State Road passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Hinson was born December 30, 1923 in Surry County to Raymond W. Carter and Nelia Ray Carter. She was a graduate of Elkin High School and attended Draughon’s Business College in Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Hinson was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and served as the church treasurer for 19 years and was a member of Women on Mission for over 70 years. She was a great granddaughter of W.T. Ray, one of the seven charter members of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to being co-owner of and operator of Hinson Strawberry Farm, Mrs. Hinson was employed for 20 years as secretary for Bank of Elkin, Chatham Manufacturing Co. and United Dairy (formerly Farmers Dairy).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Esker D. Hinson; son, Ray Hinson; and brother, Adger B. Carter.

Survivors include: sons, Scott D. Hinson of State Road, Mack Hinson and his wife Susan of State Road; daughter-in-law, Phyllis R. Hinson of State Road; six grandchildren and their spouses, Rita Wiles and husband Neil, Dawn Hinson, Joy Osborne and husband Chris, April Bauguess and husband Jason, Brett Hinson and wife Rachel, Matt Hinson and his fiancée Cassie and nine great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with  Rev. Chad Whitley and Dr. Roger Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 193 Fellowship Way, State Road, NC 28676 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
