Polly Childress Prevette

Polly Childress Prevette died peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC on June 8 ^th surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old.

Polly was the youngest of six children born in Ronda, NC during the height of the Great Depression, to Marshall and Lessie Sparks Childress on April 22 ^nd , 1932. She attended Ronda High School and worked in local textile mills until she retired in 1995.

Polly was married to Junior Prevette for 66 years until his death in 2016. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ronda where she enjoyed sharing her voice in the choir for many years.

Polly had a green thumb, her blooms adorned the tables of family, friends and local businesses. She was an accomplished artist, specializing in oil still life and landscapes. Polly shared her talent by teaching art classes through Wilkes Community College. She loved to be in the kitchen preparing food for those she loved, it was not only a talent but a passion and one she freely shared with neighbors and those in need. She perfected many a recipe with the quail Junior brought home from his daily hunts.

Quite possibly, she was happiest traveling, whether for a picnic in the mountains or to the beach, Las Vegas, Hawaii or Niagara Falls.

Polly was loved and admired by her family and many friends. She was honest, dependable and a most trusted confidant. Dementia robbed her of her memories and her quality of life. The family would like to thank the many friends and family members for their support over the past ten years.

Polly is survived by her children, Rosann Poplin (Sandy) and Dwayne Prevette (Tammy) both of Ronda, grandchildren, Mandy Poplin of Boone and Benjamin and William Prevette of Ronda.

A graveside service will be held at Ronda Cemetery on Sunday, June 12 at 4:00 PM presided by Dr. Bill Johnson. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Ruby Blackburn Adult Daycare Center in North Wilkesboro, NC or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.
