Mr. Thomas John Lux, age 88, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at his home. Tom was born August 4, 1934 in Butler County, Nebraska to Herman Joseph Lux and Clara Josephine Sieverding Lux. Tom retired after a long career from Weyerhaeuser and was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska with a BS degree in Forestry. Tom was an avid fisherman and an expert arborist and loved the outdoors in general. He was an active member of St. Stephen Catholic Church where he served as a reader. Tom was very humble and full of compassion and empathy for those less fortunate; he was accepting and inclusive of all people. Tom was an active member of the peace group in Elkin where he stood many Thursday mornings on the corner of Bridge and Market Streets with other members of the community for a peace vigil. He was active in many social justice and charitable causes and was a volunteer with Tri-C for over 20 years.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Adrienne F. Lux; brothers, Ray Lux and Jim Lux and sister, Dorothy Alvine.
Survivors include: sons, Jonathan Lux of Fleetwood, NC and Joseph Lux of Los Angeles; daughter, Margaret Lux of Los Angeles; sister, Mary Kopocis of Omaha, NE and sister, Sister Therese Lux of Omaha, NE and grandchildren, Dale Jackson, Matthew Lux, Christina Lux, Sarah Lux, Christopher Austin and Andrew Austin and several great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father John Hanic officiating accompanied by Sister Janis McQuade, SSJ. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m. at St. Stephen Family Life Center.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministries, PO Box 511, Elkin, NC 28621.
The family would like to thank caregivers, Shirley, Celia, Judy, Neal, Kimberly, and Noreen who lovingly cared for Thomas like a father; Father John Hanic, Sister Janis McQuade SSJ and the members of St. Stephen Catholic Church especially, Ceil and Ritchie for all of their love, support, friendship and care.
